How To Become More Accountable, You Only Have 3 Choices

As entrepreneurs, we find all these great ideas about how we’re going to grow our businesses. You’ve attended the live seminar, read the book or bought the online course. You were excited right! However, it’s now been a while and you have yet to implement most of what you’ve learned.

There are probably many reasons why you haven’t, but I can tell you from my own experience, the biggest reason for most is a lack of accountability.

It’s too easy to put off until another day. We’re all so busy.

Then you buy a new book, attend another seminar or signup for yet another online course, and you repeat the cycle, but you continue to not have the same success as others around you.

Accountability is what separates those who are thriving in their businesses from the ones who are simple surviving, or worse.

Maybe all you need is someone that can help you, and it should be someone who has already accomplished what it is you are trying to do.

Inside the online training program that I developed, I provide just the educational information. I show my clients how to do what I do, but it’s up to them if they do it or not. Some don’t even start the first training module. I’ve been struggling to find ways to help them, as they need someone to hold them accountable and provide feedback and encouragement, which will increase their motivation to continue working through the program… and overcome many of the challenges involved. I really want to help them succeed.

This is what I’ve come up with. You only have 3 choices:

1. You become personally accountable.

You stop making excuses and you start moving forward, every single day, one step at a time towards success. Yes. These people exist, but they’re not very common.

2. Find an accountability partner.

Maybe there is someone else who’s read the same book or taken a similar course. Partner with them and hold each other accountable. Setup a call at the beginning of each week to choose your actions, and talk about your progress from the previous week, with no excuses.

3. Pay for an accountability coach.

Find a life or business coach that will hold you accountable. This will without a doubt accelerate how quickly you will be able to implement strategies into your business and overcome the obstacles getting in your way. If you’re struggling to get started on that blog or video, or even to get out networking for example… consider investing in a coach.  It will have the greatest impact of these three strategies.

However, accountability coaching can often bring some not-so-pleasant feelings that you may not like, especially if you’re not completely your weekly tasks.

Having someone who checks in with you on a weekly basis to make sure you’ve done what you said you were going to do, is likely to kick you into action more than if you work with a “friendly” accountability partner, or have no one except yourself to be accountable to.

Also, paying for this coaching service will make this strategy even more effective, because if you don’t do your work, you will feel like you’re wasting your money.

After getting an accountability coach, you’ve now have another three choices:

  1. Continue to waste your money.
  2. Quit coaching and go back to what you did before.
  3. Start completing the things you told your coach you were going to do, and start growing your business.

There’s plenty of very effective life and business coaches offering different levels of service around that charge anywhere from $100 a month to $1500 a month.  It’s likely an investment that will pay for itself many time over.  Ask around in your online and offline networks to get a recommendation.

Over the past 18 years I have had several different mentors and coaches, and it was always during those times that my business growth accelerated the fastest. In between those times, my businesses growth has always slowed dramatically.
